Hot cross buns are traditionally eaten on Good Friday and are usually made with fruit, marked with a cross on the top.
Greggs has previously launched a vegan version of the snack and both variants have been popular in recent years - but, as reported by The Liverpool Echo, this year it will be absent from its menu.
The bakery chain will be launching a string of other Easter-themed products soon, however.
A Greggs spokesperson said: "Our hot cross buns are taking a well deserved rest from our Easter menu this year but keep an eye out for our other exciting Easter products which will be in shops soon."
Greggs boasts more than 2,000 stores across the UK, with a number in its home city of Newcastle.
The bakery chain was founded more than 80 years ago by John Gregg in the city.
