Greggs is gearing up to launch a brand new range of flatbreads this Thursday.
The popular chain has reported high demand for its hot food items, such as its chicken goujons and wedges. The firm revealed its sales have grown by nearly a fifth in the past 12 months with a 17% increase in its sales this year.
Now Greggs will grow its menu even further as it prepares to launch a new range of flatbreads on Thursday, which will include a Mexican chicken flavour. It has also tapped into newer markets this year with the launch of its evening pizza range and its ever-growing vegan options, including the viral vegan sausage roll and brand new chicken-free bakes.
Greggs’ chief executive Roisin Currie told the PA news agency that consumers were “loving the versatility” of hot and cold options.
“It’s all about offering that choice, so people can come in more frequently,” she told PA.
“They can come in time and time again and try lots of different things, as well as they favourites that they love.”
Greggs has said that the reason for its surge in sales at the start of the year is due to the beginning of 2022 being impacted by the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus.
Nevertheless, sales are expected to "normalise" throughout the rest of the year, as inflation begins to ease.
But it is still expecting cost inflation to reach around 9% to 10% this year, driven by staff pay pressures and higher energy costs.
It comes as the bakery firm has continued expanding its stores, as it has opened 63 new shops and closed 25 franchises over the last year.
It had more than 2,360 shops by mid-May, and previously hinted it wants to reach more than 3,000 across the UK over time.
Its expansion has targeted busy commuter areas, with the bakery chain reopening in a larger premise within Glasgow's busy airport 13 years after it closed.
