Greg Taylor makes Celtic performance pledge

Celtic left back Greg Taylor

GREG Taylor has revealed that Celtic will seek to step up their performance levels after the international break and increase their chances of enjoying domestic and European success this season.

Taylor was desperately disappointed when the Parkhead club’s 38 game unbeaten run in the cinch Premiership finally came to an end on Sunday.

The Scottish champions suffered their first league defeat in 364 days when they lost 2-0 to St Mirren at the SMISA Stadium at the weekend.

Their left back, who has joined up with the Scotland squad for their Nations League matches with Ukraine and the Republic of Ireland, felt that Celtic had played well before their loss in Paisley.

Ange Postecoglou’s men are still two points clear of Rangers at the top of the Premiership table after winning their opening six fixtures.

They are also in the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals and have earned plaudits for their performances against Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League.

Taylor has been in excellent form personally – but he stressed that both he and his team mates will be determined to do even better when they take on Motherwell at home on Saturday week.

“Domestically we have been pretty strong in the first part of the season,” he said. “Results and performances have, apart from on Sunday, both been there.

“In Europe the performances have been pretty much there in the two games, albeit there was a 30 minute spell in the Real Madrid game where they were more ruthless than us up front.

“As a team I think we have performed strongly in the first part of the season.

“But we hope there is more to come from us as a group and we will strive to continue to improve when we return after the international break.”
