Greg Taylor was the victim of a 'horrible' handball situation against St Mirren and VAR should not have been forced to intervene.
That is the view of former Rangers defender Alan Hutton who says the Scotland left-back was caught between a rock and a hard place as the Hoops lost a penalty inside five minutes against the Buddies. The end result was a scintillating second-half performance from Ange Postecoglou's side that saw 5-1 as the final scoreline in Paisley.
And Hutton insists that while VAR was able to make what was - in his view - the right call, that referee David Dickinson had a clear enough view of the incident as to award the spot-kick without the need for consultation. Yet the former defender sympathises with Taylor and suggests he probably knew it was going to be a penalty.

When asked if the referee felt duty-bound to change his call, Hutton told Football Insider: “A little bit because they are basically telling him he made a mistake.
“I think that is the thing with VAR at this moment in time, maybe refs are sometimes not sure so they just leave it because they know VAR will tell them.
“I thought it was a penalty. The way he is manipulating the ball into the box, I understand Taylor is swinging round and it is that horrible one where you just know it is going to be a penalty.
“But the referee should have been in a good position to make his own decision rather than wait to go and look at the monitor.“
