There are many reasons why Carolina Panthers great Greg Olsen is an Emmy Award-winning broadcaster, and his caution with the pen is one of them.
Olsen was featured on Monday’s episode of the Barstool Sports podcast “Pardon My Take,” where he talked about some of the mistakes he’s made in the booth. While he did fess up to a few follies, the former tight end said he’s worked hard to avoid a pretty huge . . . um . . . blunder.
“I’ve messed up a million things and drawn the wrong picture,” Olsen said, via Brandon Contes of Awful Announcing. “That’s tough. There’s so many things in NFL football that look like penises. And there’s a lot of very questionable verbiage that’s used in NFL football. ‘Come inside.’ There’s a lot of stuff that you gotta be careful. And I’m not gonna lie, there’s times where I’m like, ‘Here’s a safety, here’s a safety’ and you want to show that third little zone and you’re like, nope! Delete. Clear screen. I’m not gonna be the [expletive] guy.”
Well . . . so far, so good.
The 38-year-old will be entering his third full season as a color commentator for FOX in 2023. And to this point, it’s been an eventful two campaigns for Olsen—who earned rave reviews for his call of Super Bowl LVII and was named the recipient of the Sports Emmy award for Outstanding Personality as an Emerging On-Air Talent.
Luckily for Olsen, that’s the only thing that’s really emerged during his new career.
