Greg Kiltie shares 'delight' at netting St Mirren winner for struggling boss Stephen Robinson

St Mirren goal hero Greg Kiltie was delighted to net the crucial winner against St Johnstone - and then revealed he didn’t care who scored as long as all three points came back to Paisley.

The former Kilmarnock midfielder clinically tucked home Alex Greive’s cross to move the Buddies eight points ahead of the relegation play-off position.

And Kiltie says New Zealand international Greive’s early chance, which was ultimately saved, helped set the tone as the Paisley Saints grew in confidence and eventually notched a pivotal second half winner.

Kiltie told Express Sport: "I was delighted with the goal, although I didn't really care who scored it to be honest with you as long as someone put it in the back of the net.

"Alex missed a chance early on and you start to think 'are we not going to be able to score again'.

"But we kept at it and that was the thing. We kept going and I thought we played really well.

"I think you saw that we started well. We didn't go into the game with any nerves.

"In fact we went into it with confidence and we took it from there.

"When you start like that, you just grow into the game and it gave us a lot of confidence. Everyone played their part."

Kiltie ran to the bench to celebrate his goal and after the game explained that St Mirren teammate Jay Henderson, who he travels alongside to games, had predicted he would shank one into the net.

But his promise to celebrate with the winger was broken as the youngster didn’t leave his seat in the dugout.

Kiltie explained: "I travel with wee Hendo and he said to me that I would shank one into the ground and score.

"He said if I did he would come and celebrate it with me, but when I scored he didn't come out! Oh well, I tried.

"I think it looked like I was celebrating with the bench and I think a few folk thought I was running to the gaffer.

"But it was for wee Hendo because he told me I was going to score.

"He must have been too busy doing something else!"

Kiltie was delighted for St Mirren gaffer Stephen Robinson, who earned only his second victory since taking over the club in February.

And the midfielder also praised the fighting spirit of his teammates as they took all three points at McDiarmid Park - a venue they had failed to score at in their previous seven visits.

Kiltie added: "It was a hard run we were on and no one likes to be in it - the gaffer or the players. It's not nice for anyone in the club.

"So to get such a big win, I was delighted for him.

“The basis for anything is just to go out and work hard and see where it takes you.

"Things were going our way and the ball was breaking our way.

"We got the goal and then tried to kill the game and I thought we did that well.”
