Greg Kiltie insists St Mirren are still full of confidence ahead of Ross County clash despite Celtic and Hearts defeats

Playmaker Greg Kiltie insists his Buddies haven’t lost their confidence after suffering back-to-back Premiership defeats.

The Saints started 2022 with an impressive eight-game unbeaten run that saw them sail into the Scottish Cup quarter-finals, as well as putting them firmly into the mix for a top-six spot.

That streak came to a crashing halt against Hearts and Celtic, with tomorrow’s clash with Ross County now hugely important in terms of St Mirren trying to force their way into the top half of the table.

And Kiltie believes he and his teammates can still take plenty of positives from their recent form, despite a couple of painful losses against two of the top three teams in the league standings.

Kiltie told Renfrewshire Live Sport: “If you look at our 2022 overall it’s been really positive.

“I wouldn’t say the last two games has taken our confidence away.

“It’s been two really good teams we’ve played against. Even against Celtic I don’t think anyone would have given us a chance to get something there anyway.

“Our performance was positive against Celtic, even though the result wasn’t what we wanted.

“We’re still positive looking ahead and there’s really big games coming up. We’re looking to get back on track and kick on again.

“The table is ridiculously close. A couple of wins can take you right up to fourth and a couple of losses you can be sitting at the other end.

“We’ve got to be positive going into them. These are the games you want to be involved in.

“We’re fighting for that top six as hard as we can.”
