NFL WEEK 6
GREG COTE’S THURSDAY PICK
COMMANDERS (1-4) at BEARS (2-3)
Line: Even.
Cote’s pick: CHI, 23-16. TV: 8:15 p.m., Prime Video.
Remember last Thursday night? Or has therapy helped you forget? It was that seven field-goal snorefest and boo-a-rama won 12-9 by Indy in Denver -- in overtime, to elongate the agony. Well, this Thursday night could be similar as we get two more offenses that make reaching an end zone seem like a climb to the peak of the Annapurna in Nepal. Washington at Chicago kicks off NFL Week 6 with the lowest points over/under at 37 1/2 in a rare pick-’em betting line. Commanders coach Ron Rivera spent the week apologizing to Carson Wince — I mean Wentz — for blatantly calling quarterbacking his team’s main problem, after Wince threw an interception at Tennessee’s 2-yard line with 13 seconds left in a three-point loss last week. Now Wentz is iffy with a sore shoulder and Taylor Heinicke on call. The Bears' picture is a bit better. Justin Fields has increased his passing yards four straight games and seems to be finding a rhythm and Bears, despite their scoring problems, have the No. 5-ranked ground game in the league. Bears are 2-0 at home and a hot(ish) Fields is ready to end Chicago’s eight-game losing streak in prime time.
