Greens slam Qld casino alcohol rules

Greens MP Michael Berkman says the casino exemption is a brazen double standard. (AAP)

The Greens have slammed the Queensland government for exempting casinos from curfews and ID rules to curb alcohol-fulled violence at venues.

Labor has banned liquor sales after 5am and mandated ID scanners in venues in certain night precincts, but casinos will be exempt.

It says dedicated gambling venues already operate under more scrutiny than pubs and clubs, and withdrawing their 24-hour licences would be at odds with plans to make Brisbane a "new world city".

It said that failing to allow casinos to trade 24 hours a day would work against Labor's plans to make Brisbane a "new world city".

Greens MP Michael Berkman called the exemption was a brazen double standard.

"Colour me shocked that Queensland Labor is ignoring their own expert report to give casinos like Star a free pass," he told AAP in a statement.

"It's the most appalling and brazen double standard.

"If small bars and venues have to close earlier and use ID scanners, so should casinos."

Mr Berkman also raised concerns about the links between MPs and casino operators.

Star Entertainment is at the centre of the $3.6 billion Queens Wharf casino and resort development.

"Star has lavished both Labor and the LNP with donations and has showered senior ministers with perks like corporate box seats, hotel stays and tickets to polo matches," he said.

"This is just adding insult to injury."

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said government policies had halved assaults in night precincts between 3am and 6am on Friday and Saturday nights.

"Significantly, there's been a 52 per cent reduction in these assaults in one of the state's most popular precincts - Fortitude Valley," she told parliament on Wednesday.
