Green light for Three Chamberlain Square on Birmingham's Paradise project

City planners in Birmingham have handed the green light to the fourth office building to be developed at the £1.2 billion Paradise scheme.

Three Chamberlain Square will have 185,000 sq ft of office and commercial space across ten storeys on land next to Town Hall and fronting on Paradise Street.

It will also have 200 bike spaces, changing facilities and all-electric power and heating.

The scheme, designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, was unanimously approved at today's meeting of Birmingham City Council's planning committee. Construction is due to start next year and be completed in 2025.

Other office buildings on the Paradise estate include the completed One and Two Chamberlain Square and One Centenary Way which is due to be finished by the end of this year.

Groundwork has also started on a plot fronting Summer Row where the 49-storey apartment tower Octagon is being built.

A 17-storey hotel, One Centenary Way and three new public spaces, called Ratcliff Square, Western Terrace and Ratcliff Passage, join Three Chamberlain Square in making up phase two of the Paradise scheme whose project cost was recently revised up by £500 million to £1.2 billion.

Rob Groves, regional development director at Paradise development manager MEPC, said: "This planning approval is another huge vote of confidence in both the city and Paradise and its ability to attract new jobs, skills and investment to Birmingham.

"A further commercial building will enable us to meet market demand for space in the city centre, in a highly sustainable, people-centred building of the highest quality.

"In addition to office space, Three Chamberlain Square will bring further leisure and retail opportunities to the heart of the city, with the prospect of more top-quality operators of the like we've already attracted to Paradise."

Chris Taylor, chief executive of Paradise's funding manager Federated Hermes Real Estate, added: "This is a significant next step in the Paradise story.

"Our ambition is to deliver one of the UK's leading business destinations by creating leading sustainable buildings set within the very best public realm, with first-class retail and leisure amenities for all those who work, live in or visit the city.

"We are committed to driving forward our investment in Paradise. Three Chamberlain Square will ensure that the momentum continues apace."
