Celtic supporters group the Green Brigade have raised a staggering amount of money for foodbanks after the club was by a UEFA fine.
Sections of the Hoops faithful displayed a banner against the monarchy ahead of their Champions League Group A match in Poland against Shakhtar Donetsk, six days after the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II last month. Europe's governing body UEFA said it was 'not fit for a sports event' as Celtic players wore black armbands to commemorate the passing, but the banner means they are hit with a sanction.
Their total fines come in at over £16,000 after they were also hit with a £3k penalty for using pyrotechnics. The Green Brigade have noted this and similar to when they raised money for those struggling in Palestine after displaying flags of that nation in 2016, they are now appealing for charitable donations in response to this.

So far they have gathered over £26k and that figure is growing. Any money received will be spread across foodbanks in Scotland. Officially, their food drive takes place on November 5th ahead of the home match at Celtic Park against Dundee United.
A statement reads: "In 2016, UEFA fined Celtic for fans waving the Palestine flag. Fans responded to the fine by raising £176,076 for Palestinian charities. In 2022, UEFA has fined Celtic for fans displaying an anti monarchy banner.
"You can respond to this by donating to the Green Brigade's food drive appeal, where donations will be shared between foodbanks across Scotland."
