Greece travel update with nation poised to suspend all Covid rules ahead of summer

Greece is lifting all Covid-related entry restrictions as it prepares to greet record numbers of tourists this summer. Rules will be relaxed from next month in time for the peak holiday period in a boost for British tourists.

The country's minister for health Thanos Plevris confirmed the move ahead of what is expected to be the busiest summer in years with bookings already surging ahead. Restrictions will be lifted for visitors from EU and non-EU countries including the UK, plus vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers.

Travellers will no longer be required to present either proof of a full course of vaccination, or a negative Covid test to enter the country and its islands from May 2. Face coverings will no longer be compulsory from June 1 and customers will not need to provide a Covid pass as proof of vaccination when entering bars and restaurants.

The requirement for travellers to complete a passenger locator form before entering Greece was lifted last month. All domestic restrictions have also been suspended, including rules regulating capacity numbers at venues such as restaurants, shops and sports venues are also being relaxed until August 31, when all the measures will be reviewed.

Currently, Greece requires all arrivals to present a valid vaccination, recovery, or test certificate to enter the country. vaccinations must have been administered within the last nine months or have received a booster jab.

It accepts both rapid antigen and PCR test results. The rapid antigen test must be taken within 24 hours before arrival in Greece, and the PCR test must be taken within 72 hours before arrival in Greece.
