Greece travel rules explained after government U-turn baffles holidaymakers

After much confusion, Greece have confirmed they are relaxing covid entry requirements from Sunday.

This comes after Greece officials appeared to first confirm back in April that all entry requirements would be scrapped for travellers from May 1 to September.

However they made a U-turn earlier this week stating that the relaxation of covid rules would not cover borders.

But last night, Greece's Committee of Health Experts gave an update clarifying the covid rules and entry requirements.

The government statement issued yesterday stated: "At today’s meeting, the Committee of Experts of the Ministry of Health unanimously recommended:

"Suspension of Covid pass from May 1 and return of capacity to 100 per cent and the suspension of EUDCC certificate at the country entry gates.

"The proposal of the Commission is accepted by the government and the details that will be clarified on the new Joint Ministerial Decision to [be] issued.”

This means that Brits will no longer need to show proof of vaccination or a negative covid test to entry Greece.

And while proof of vaccinations won't be needed for entry into public spaces, face masks will likely still be mandatory.

But if you're flying out before Sunday, here are the entry requirements currently.

Entry requirements to Greece

  • Travellers no longer need to complete a passenger locator form.
  • Fully vaccinated travellers from the UK can show either or of the following to get into Greece.
  • A vaccination certificate. There must have been at least 14 days, and not more than nine months, since the completion of your primary vaccination for COVID-19. Booster jabs are not subject to the same time restrictions. See ‘Demonstrating your COVID-19 status’ for further details.
  • Certificate of recovery from COVID-19. See ‘Demonstrating your COVID-19 status’ for further details.
  • Proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test, undertaken within the 72 hour period before arrival into Greece, or an antigen test taken within 24 hours before arrival.
