Greece has overtaken Spain and Portugal to become the most popular holiday destination for 2023, new data from holiday operator Eliza was here reveals. The island of Zakynthos is the most popular Greek island for those looking to escape the British weather, closely followed by Crete and Corfu.
At the beginning of 2022, Eliza was here data revealed Zakynthos was in first place, as it received the most bookings at the start of the year. However, when looking at the total summer holidays booked that year, the largest Greek island, Crete, swept in and took the crown.
Corfu has also seen a rise in popularity for sun-seekers in the last two years, jumping from seventh in 2022, to fifth in 2021, and now taking third place in 2023.
Greek islands make up six of the top seven spots. However, Halkidiki, a peninsula off mainland northern Greece, known for its stunning white sand beaches and sensational seafood steals the final spot.
