Greater Manchester weather forecast for this week with new heatwave expected

Greater Manchester is set to sizzle in almost 30C temperatures this week as another heatwave sweeps Britain.

Highs of up to 35C are expected in some parts of the UK as high pressure builds, the Met Office has said. This heatwave won't bring record-breaking temperatures like the 40.3C felt in July, but it is expected to last longer.

Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan told PA news agency: "We’re quite confident temperatures will not go as high as they did during July, but the difference is that this is going to be quite a prolonged period of temperatures in the low 30s, so it will be very notable nonetheless."

The forecaster has urged people to follow precautions to avoid becoming overheated, including closing curtains and windows during the day and avoiding the midday sun. It comes after the Environment Secretary urged more water companies to impose hosepipe bans during an unusually dry August.

The heatwave is due to hit Greater Manchester on Wednesday (10 August), as the mercury rises to 26C in our region. Temperatures will peak at 28C towards the end of the week.

A spokesperson for the Met Office told the Manchester Evening News : "The north west is likely to start entering heatwave conditions, with temperatures of 25C or more, from Tuesday (August 9) and temperatures will raise to around 30C by the end of the week.

"By Sunday we are expecting the high pressure to shift eastwards allowing fresher, more Atlantic-dominated weather patterns to gain traction. This is likely to lead to cooler conditions and possibly it may bring more rain to the forecast. But the certainty for any outcome after the heat is quite low."
