Greater Manchester weather forecast as more snow is on the way this weekend

Greater Manchester has experienced all four seasons this week, from warm, sunny weather to snow showers and sleet. On Thursday morning, people in parts of Tameside, Oldham, Stockport and Manchester reported waking up to the white stuff.

Heavy snow caused some disruption on the roads, with heavy traffic on a section of the M62 between junction 23 for Huddersfield and junction 21 for Milnrow. More wintry showers are forecast on Friday and Saturday in some areas of Greater Manchester, with minimum temperatures dipping to -3C overnight.

The mornings will start frosty but remain dry and bright this weekend, with some rain and wintry showers forecast on Saturday afternoon. However Sunday will remain dry, with maximum temperatures of 9C.

Friday

Today will have a cold and frosty with some sunny spells. Scattered showers will develop from late morning onwards, with some of them to turn 'wintry over the hills and leaving a dusting of snow in places.' It will feel cold in the breeze, with a maximum temperature today of 9C.

There will be 'isolated wintry showers' this evening, giving way to a spell of sleet and hill snow during the early hours - mainly in the south. By morning it will become dry and frosty, with a minimum temperature -3C.

Saturday

It's forecast to start dry and frosty on Saturday morning, with some 'long sunny periods.' However 'isolated showers' will develop for the afternoon, with 'wintry showers' expected over the highest ground. The maximum temperature will be 9C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

It's expected to be another frosty start on Sunday morning, remaining dry and followed by some bright spells. Monday will be cloudy, windy and much milder, with rain at times. Tuesday will remain cloudy and breezy, with the occasional rain.
