Greater Manchester's hotspot area where families are flocking to find their forever homes

Areas that boast good Ofsted-rated schools, reasonably priced homes and plenty of local amenities will often attract families to live there. Certain parts of Greater Manchester have become a hive for families over the years with their safe, friendly and thriving communities that make for a great place to find a forever home.

In the last month, Purplebricks has noticed strong buyer activity in Denton. The estate agents say that an increased number of families are looking to up sticks to the established family-friendly Tameside town due to its reputable schools, local parks and good transport links, with most wanting to move there to settle down and grow their families.

Known as a base for hat-making for more than 200 years, many residents in Denton have strong local links to the area and have lived there alongside their families for their entire lives. In recent years, the town has also become a must-visit for food and drink with an array of new, successful bar and restaurant openings.

Over the last year properties in Denton were sold at an average price of £196,818, making it a fairly affordable area to purchase a home in comparison to the standard house price across the region which is £242,386.

The majority of sales in Denton in the last 12 months were semi-detached properties, selling for an average price of £215,584, which are most commonly family homes.

Prices in Denton over the last year have gone up by 10%, and are 21% higher than the peak in 2019, which shows the increased demand in the area.

Purplebricks say properties are flying off the market at the moment, with family homes typically selling within just five days. This is after estate agents have had high levels of interest, with multiple viewings and offers submitted.

This three-bed detached home on the prestigious Thornley Rise estate had a lot of interest from families and even first-time buyers looking to start off in the Tameside town.

Tanya Woodward, Purplebricks Local Property Partner said: “This unique property looks like a little palace and is very well positioned for a host of local amenities, with Denton's Crown Point North Shopping Park, Audenshaw's Snipe Retail Park and Guide Bridge train station all being just a few minutes away."

The property expert explained that Denton is becoming somewhere where people choose to move to and then stay for the duration of their lives.

"Many people spend their whole lives living in Denton due to its good schools, local parks and amenities," Tanya said.

"The area is incredibly popular with a range of first time buyers and families because of its affordability and links to the M60 and M67.

"On average, houses spend around five days on the market before selling, and we expect multiple viewings and offers from these listings."

There are many desirable locations within Denton including Dane Bank and Town Lane which are both set in close proximity to good schools including Denton West End Primary and St Thomas Moor secondary school.

Families looking for newer build style properties often gravitate to the Whittles Farm and St Annes Estates whilst those looking for period homes will find these on and surrounding Stockport Road.

Haughton Green is an area popular with families who prefer the countryside with many homes having views over Haughton Dale country park and the Goyt Valley.

Denton was once home to famous residents Mick Hucknall from Simply Red and Alan 'Reni' Wren from The Stone Roses, former England footballer Sir Geoff Hurst and former Man City player Paul Lake.
