A second £25 Cold Weather Payment will be sent to households across Greater Manchester as the cold snap continues. Cold Weather Payments are made when temperatures are recorded, or forecast, to be 0C or below for seven consecutive days.
The scheme runs throughout the winter. People can get a £25 payment for each seven-day period of very cold weather between 1 November 1 and March 31.
So far this winter, the scheme from the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) has been triggered twice. Last week, it was revealed that hundreds of households across the region would be eligible for the payment for December 5 to December 11, and now the DWP has confirmed that a second payment will be sent out for the period of December 12 to December 18.

People on certain DWP benefits are eligible for the payments. If you are getting Pension Credit, Income Support or Universal Credit, you may be eligible. People who get income-based Jobseekers Allowance or Employment and Support Allowance may also get the payments.
If you are eligible for the payments, you should see the money automatically land in your bank account within 14 working days of the cold weather period. It will be paid into the same bank or building society account as your benefit payments.

According to the Met Office, the UK will remain cold throughout the rest of the week with a chance of sleet and snow falling at times. However, milder temperatures are expected after the weekend.
Paul Gundersen, Met Office Chief Forecaster, said: “Over the last week, the UK has been held in a northerly airflow bringing cold, sometimes Arctic air, to the UK. We will still have this northerly influence to our weather patterns until the weekend, but then the cold conditions will lose exclusive dominance over the UK’s weather patterns and we will move into a regime where relatively mild and relatively cold conditions will vie for supremacy."
Here is the full list of all the Greater Manchester postcode areas that are due two cold weather payments since the start of November.
