Greater Manchester chocolatiers launch ‘boujee and boozy’ creme eggs for Easter

Easter is very much a holiday marketed towards the smaller members of the family, with children collecting chocolate egg hauls from parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, taking part in Easter egg hunts and seeing how much chocolate they can eat before lunchtime.

But a Greater Manchester chocolate specialist has teamed up with a popular alcohol brand to bring the adults something fun to enjoy this Bank Holiday weekend - a bit like a boozy Easter bunny.

The Insta-celebrated pink drink - Tequila Rose - has partnered with Chorlton’s The Cocoa Tree to create some of the boujee-est, most beautiful creme eggs for the ultimate grown up treat this Spring.

The limited edition strawberry liqueur creme eggs come in a little pink egg carton, which looks pretty low key and inconspicuous in the kitchen, but when you lift the lid, it reveals six stunning black and pink painted eggs in The Cocoa Tree’s signature style.

Each egg is filled with a rich fondant and smooth Tequila Rose ganache and then beautifully hand-decorated by a team of skilled artisans in the striking Tequila Rose pink and black signature colours.

Priced at £16.50, they’re not the cheapest Easter gift, with a box of five Cadbury Creme Eggs coming in at £3.45 by comparison - but they’re bigger, boozier and hand-crafted from Belgian chocolate by an independent business, so you’re paying for luxury.

Not only that, but I don’t usually like creme eggs, finding them a bit sickly, gritty from being overloaded with sugar, and generally a bit ‘much’ - but these boozy bombshells are a real treat.

Typically, liquor infused chocolates can taste cheap and synthetic, but these Tequila Rose eggs are really sophisticated and smooth. There’s a sharpness from the tequila, but it’s balanced by the sweetness of the sugar and silky strawberry cream flavours.

I enjoyed mine alongside a shot of the Tequila Rose Strawberry Cream, having never actually tried the tipple, despite my penchant for a mezcal margarita, and was blown away, devastated I’d not discovered it sooner. It’s like a tequila and Irish cream hybrid, but also reminds me of my favourite McDonald’s strawberry milkshake, so you can imagine how well this translates into a chocolate product.

A 70cl bottle of the strawberry cream liqueur is currently reduced on Amazon, costing £15.99 instead of £18.95.

Really beautifully designed, the chocolate eggs were almost too pretty to eat, but too delicious not to. They really felt like a naughty creme egg for adults to be enjoyed ‘after hours’. The limited edition eggs launched on March 30, and you do have to be over 18 to buy them.

Of course, they’re not the only Easter delight from The Cocoa Tree this year, either. The café pulls out all the stops this time of year with free personalisation on Easter eggs, and beautiful jewel-coloured chocolate treats that look like works of art, much like this special collaboration.
