Greater Manchester area STILL without water after power cut with emergency water stations set up

An area of Greater Manchester is still without water due to a power cut yesterday (November 11) evening. Bottled water stations have re-opened this morning in Stockport for people to collect free bottled water while there is disruption.

It was reported last night that a number of homes in Stockport and Hazel Grove were without running water due to a power cut causing 'technical issues' at a local water treatment works. Bottled water stations were set-up for those affected to be able to collect water, closing at 10pm last night and reopening at 8am this morning.

United Utilities has apologised this morning to those still experiencing issues with 'good progress' made to fix the issue overnight. They say the situation will continue to improve throughout the day while more water is put back into the system.

A United Utilities spokesman said: "Our apologies for those customers who may still be experiencing some poor pressures or no water this morning. We have made good progress overnight on the issue with the treatment works which has affected your water services.

"Our teams have worked through the night and the situation will now improve as we go through the day and more water begins to flow into the network of water pipes which bring it to your homes and businesses. The two bottled water stations will re-open from 8am where you can collect free bottles of water to help while the situation gets back to normal.

"We’ll continue to get you updated with progress."

The bottled water locations are stationed at:

  • Hazel Grove Park & Ride, Macclesfield Road, Hazel Grove, Stockport SK7 6BF (please use the Dunkeld Road entrance)
  • High Lane Park, off Windlehurst Road, High Lane, Stockport SK6 8AE
