The owners of a fish and chip shop have confirmed they will serve their last orders as the shop is due to close after 36 years of trading.
A statement posted by the business online recently confirmed the closure, saying "After much through and with great sadness, we would like to inform our lovely, loyal customers that within the next few weeks Johnny's Fish Bar will be closing our doors for good until a new buyer is secured. This is to allow John and Flora to enjoy their retirement."
Johnny’s Fish Bar, in Nottingham Road, Ilkeston, will serve its final customers this weekend, Derbyshire Live reports. Owners John and Flora Christofi are both in their 70s and believe the time is right to retire after more than three-and-a-half decades. Their daughter Christina says her mum and dad have been serving the local community long enough to see some customers grow from children to become parents and even grandparents.
Christina, who also works at the chippy alongside fellow family members Demetrios, Sophia and Yiannis, spoke to Ilkeston Life about her parents' decision to retire. She said: “Mum and Dad have been thinking of retiring for a while now. They are both in their seventies and have finally made the decision to call it a day.
“They have enjoyed their long stint and would like to thank all their loyal customers. We have seen some of them grow from children to parents and even grandparents. It has been a pleasure to serve them their fish and chips and kebabs.”
Recently, the chippy, which is located opposite the Asda petrol station, has been open three nights per week only. It will be open on the evenings of Thursday, October 27, and Friday, October 28, before the final fish and chips, and kebabs, are served on Saturday night, October 29.
