Free entry into the Great North Run is on offer for every Newcastle goal scored during this evening's match.
The treat was announced by Sir Brendan Foster, founder of the world-famous half-marathon, in celebration of Newcastle United's success in the run to the semi-final of the Carabao Cup. There is to be a giveaway of one free entry to the run for every goal scored by the local team against Southampton.
And the Olympic medallist pointed out: "The more they score, the more we’ll give away." This autumn's run, being sponsored by investment group AJ Bell, takes place on September 10 and places are always in huge demand.

So it will be all eyes on this evening's away game at St Mary's. Sir Brendan, who recently announced a first partnership with Newcastle United and a new route for this summer's Great North 10k, has been delighted by the recent results, saying: “Cup semi-finals and, dare we say it, finals have been quite rare in the North East.
“I’ve been a been a die-hard Magpies fan all my life so like most of the city I’m really looking forward to tonight’s match. To celebrate, we’re giving away a free AJ Bell Great North Run entry for every goal scored by Newcastle."
Referencing the club manager Eddie Howe, he added: “Best of luck to Eddie and the team tonight. Howay the lads!”
Those keen to be in with a chance of securing a free place in the run will have a double chance to do so, with a similar offer applying to the upcoming home game next week. Anyone who enters the Great North Run ballot before kick-off at 8pm tonight will be placed in the draw for a free entry, depending upon the result.
The second chance will come when the next leg is played at St James’ Park on Tuesday, January 31. The Great North Run, which has around 60,000 entrants each year, is the biggest running event in the country and raises an estimated £25m each year for charity.
This year marks the start of a five-year partnership with its new title partner AJ Bell. To enter the ballot and be in with a chance of winning free entry see here.
