‘Great fit’ for Manchester United: Jaap Stam endorses ex-Celtic star Jeremie Frimpong

A former Celtic player has been tipped to join Manchester United this summer as the Red Devils look to strengthen their squad.

Jeremie Frimpong, 24, has impressed since his move to Bayer Leverkusen in January 2021, making a name for himself as one of Europe’s most promising right-backs.

Frimpong’s time at Celtic was marked by his rapid rise to prominence. After arriving from Manchester City’s youth setup in 2019, the Dutch full-back’s pace and attacking abilities quickly made him a hot property.

He’s been credited as a possible replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool. However, ex-Manchester United favourite Jaap Stam thinks Frimpong would be an ideal player in Ruben Amorim’s system at Old Trafford.

"Jeremie Frimpong can play as a right-wing back having also played as a right winger and a right back,” he told Makthavare.se.

“He has pace and is very direct and can score goals as well as create chances for his team-mates.

"I think he would be a very interesting player for Manchester United to look at, he would fit the style of play on the right hand side, the only issue might be if the club don’t want to continue bringing in Dutch players going forward.

"But he has a lot of quality and is doing so well in a tough division in Germany, I think he would be a great fit for the system at United."

Frimpong has made 182 appearances for the German club across the past four years, scoring 29 times.
