Great British Menu appearance a ‘dream come true’ reveals top Co Fermanagh chef

Co Fermanagh chef Marty McAdam is set to put the county on the food map this week as he appears on hit show Great British Menu.

The owner of The Street Kitchen and Paget Lane in Enniskillen will appear alongside three other chefs from Northern Ireland in the show, which airs on Tuesday night on BBC Two.

The talented chef said it was the biggest honour of his professional life to appear on the show.

“This has to be the biggest honour of my professional life,” Marty said in a Facebook post.

“To just be a part of Great British Menu is a dream come true. I got to meet and cook alongside some truly brilliant chefs.

“Thanks everyone for this unforgettable experience.”

In a promo video for the release of the show this week, Marty describes himself as a "council estate boy".

“I’m a council estate boy, I didn’t grow up eating lobster and caviar,” the chef says.

“It was fish finger sandwiches and the odd apple crumble.

“My restaurant has been 20 years in the making. I’ve dreamed about it since I was four years of age.

“It’s the best thing I’ve ever done, maybe with the exception of getting married!

“I think I’ve got what it takes to win this competition, I think I’ve got the skill set.

“I’m going to approach it like I’m not here to take part, I’m here to take gold.”

Marty will compete alongside Gemma Austin from Belfast Restaurant A Peculiar Tea, Stephen Hope from Dawson’s in Castledawson, and Co Down native Chris McClurg.

It’s safe to say Co Fermanagh folk will be cheering Marty on in the Northern Ireland heat of the show, which kicks off on BBC Two at 8pm on Tuesday.
