Great British Bake Off winner announces wedding to long term partner

Great British Bake Off 2019 winner David Atherton has shared the sweet news that he and his partner Nik Sariyski are tying the knot on Saturday, July 8.

The baker, author and podcast host took home the glass cake stand trophy in 2019 after wowing Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith with his impressive and flavourful cakes and became the first ever winner to have never won the Star Baker title. He beat Alice Fevronia and Steph Blackwell in the final.

Posting a series of pictures on Instagram which showed David and his partner of over six years together in a series of different adorable poses, David wrote: "On Saturday I get to marry this special human!!!

"I’m already fully committed to this guy and love the family we’ve made, but it’ll be amazing to formally read our vows in front of our family. We’re having a small wedding with just close family, but of course I’ll put some photos on here.

"I’m so thankful to all the people who fought for equal marriage in the UK, and I stand with all those fighting for the same rights across the world #lovewins"

Shortly after posting this news, David's comments section was flooded with congratulatory messages from former Bake Off winners and alumni as well as fans

The 2018 GBBO winner Dr Rahul Mandal said: "Aww, congratulations", before asking the very important question of: "But who is making the cake??" - to which David replied himself, mother and twin.

2021's winner Giuseppe Dell'Anno wrote: "Oh my gosh, congratulations, David!!! This is excellent news! Very happy for you guys and… looking forward to see the photos of the cake!"

Strictly star and Bake Off winner John Whaite added: "Congratulations boys" alongside Crystelle Pereira who added: "Oh my gosh sending you sooooo so much love!!!!!!!!" Queer Eye's Tan France also penned: "Yay, congrats guys".

The Great British Bake Off is set to return this autumn but this time with a brand new co-host as Alison Hammond will be replacing Matt Lucas opposite presenter Noel Fielding. Read more on that here.
