Great British Bake Off viewers 'in love' with hunky contestant as series returns

Great British Bake Off viewers have been left hot under the collar by heartthrob contestant Sandro.

As the new series began tonight, which saw bakers make creations of their homes in the first showstopper challenge, the 30-year-old nanny was an instant stand-out for viewers.

Many took to social media to show their enthusiasm for the fitness fanatic.

One person wrote: “Been 10 minutes and I’m already in love with sandro #gbbo.”

Another said: "Bit behind but we're all in love with Sandro right? #GBBO "

A third wrote: "Did he say he’s a Nanny?? I’ve never been more broody in my life!!! #sandro #GBBO."

One viewer quipped: "Hmmmm some eye candy on GBBO I’m looking at you Sandro! #GBBO "

A fifth person got straight to the point and asked: "Sandro will you marry me @BritishBakeOff #GBBO "

Referring to Sandro's profession, one Twitter user said: "Calling it: I’m team Sandro. He makes incredible looking cakes *and* is qualified to entertain my toddler. #GBBO"

Although viewers were impressed with Sandro, Paul told the fitness fanatic that his showstopper looked simplistic, and there was too much alcohol in it.

Sandro was born in Angola, but fled the Angolan war with his mum when he was two, settling in London.

When Sandro was 21, his father passed away and he turned to baking as a form of therapy. Now, he lives and breathes it and even runs virtual baking classes for children with autism.

Elsewhere on the show, viewers were left stunned by one person's previous career.

Host Noel Fielding, introducing the contestants in his voiceover, said: "Dawn, a former project manager for Boris Johnson, lives in Bedfordshire where she entertains granddaughter Emmy with her hand modelled sugar figurines."

Bake Off fans immediately picked up on Dawn's Boris connection and took to Twitter to comment.

"A PROJECT MANAGER FOR WHO???" one person asked as another tweeted: "She worked for Boris Johnson? Well it’s easy to pick who I want to go this week."

A third person posted: "I just want to watch #GBBO without being reminded Boris Johnson exists," while a fourth said: "What do you mean you worked for Boris Johnson!?!?!"

Someone else joked: "Hahahaha imagine admitting to being a project manager for Boris Johnson."

And a different person tweeted: "If I were on bake off I would not want my identifier to be 'used to work for Boris Johnson'."

Another viewer added: "One of them worked for Boris? Glad there’s one I don’t mind going home first."

34-year-old Janusz was handed star baker after Prue and Paul were left in awe by his showstopper, and Will was the first contestant to leave the tent.

Next week sees the amateur bakers put their biscuit making skills to the test.
