Great British Bake Off star Prue Leith MOBBED in the US by 'obsessed' fans

Bake Off judge Prue Leith says she gets mobbed in the US because the Channel 4 show is a huge hit there.

The telly icon said: “I can’t walk down the street without them going, ‘Oh my God, it’s you!’ You think they are going to have a heart attack because it is me. They are so over the top.”

Speaking on the final night of her UK tour, Prue Leith: Nothing in Moderation, the 83-year-old added: “They love Bake Off… when we were in LA, they were whooping and hollering. They are obsessed.”

Prue also said she fails to understand any sexual innuendo on the show. She told the audience at the London Palladium: “I never get the joke. I don’t know whether I am too old. They are like teenage boys, Noel [Fielding] and Paul [Hollywood]. Paul will start laughing at the word ‘sausage’.

“I never get it and always put my foot in it. Someone always sees something rude in what I have said.”

Prue also told how she would never copy the famous handshake of fellow judge, Paul. She said: “The handshake
is so important to the bakers and I don’t want to mess with that.

“Paul stuck his hand out to congratulate somebody and it took off from there so it has to be Paul’s and not mine.”

Bake Off is available on Netflix in America, where it is goes by the name of The Great British Baking Show.

A new US version, called the Great American Baking Show, is set to debut on Roku, featuring both Prue and Paul.
