Great British Bake Off fans go wild as Channel 4 show’s return teased in first-look

Channel 4’s The Great British Bake Off has given eager fans a first look glimpse at the next series of the show with a teaser trailer.

The hit baking show is set to return to our screens with a fresh batch of baking hopefuls to enter the tent in the hopes of impressing Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood.

Channel 4 has now whet fans’ appetites with a blink-and-you'll-miss-it teaser showing the show's famous tent from a distance.

Bake Off's instantly recognisable music played over scenes of the British countryside as a squirrel, an infamous favourite for cutaway shots on the Channel 4 hit, scampered away.

As the tent came into view, the words ‘Coming Soon’ appeared on screen over a blue and white gingham tablecloth.

While no official date has been confirmed as of yet, the series aired in mid-September in 2021 and is likely to do the same this year.

The clip, which aired before last night's episode of Night Coppers, was enough to send fans wild on social media, as one enthused: "BAKE OFF NEWS INCOMING I need this #GBBO."

The Great British Bake Off is shifting its iconic tent to a new location for this series – ending the strict “Covid bubble” of the past two years.

The Channel 4 hit has been shot at Down Hall Hotel in Essex since 2020 with the judges, presenters and contestants having to live in, some for more than six weeks.

This year, however, the hotel’s 98 rooms and 110 acres of parkland are available for bookings all summer, suggesting the show has moved on.

A show spokeswoman said: “We won’t be filming in a bubble this year, but protocols will be in place to keep everyone safe.”

One source explained: “All the team, particularly Prue [Leith], found it really tough not being able to go home each week.

“They are delighted that this year it will go back to the way it was, when they filmed at weekends and could leave during the week.”

Last year, host Noel Fielding was joined by his DJ partner Lliana Bird and judge Paul Hollywood's girlfriend Melissa Spalding.

Fellow judge Prue said: “I remember saying, ‘Oh God, I’m going to go into a bubble with three men, none of them grown-up. But in fact it was lovely. One of the things that was a huge relief was how well Matt [Lucas] and I got on.”

One option for 2022 is that the show will return to its previous long-term home, Welford Park, in Berkshire.
