The Great British Bake Off viewers were left baffled by one of the contestant's "utterly bizarre" choice for one of the tasks on the hit Channel 4 competition.
The show was in its second week following a successful opening cake week as the bakers returned to the tent for biscuit week. The remaining 13 contestants were tasked with making 12 macarons which did not look like the tradition French meringue-based sweet in the first challenge.
Although the designs were unusual, with one person trying to replicate the looks of their pet cat, another doing a cool yo-yo style macaron and a couple others being inspired by ice cream.
But it was Malaysia-born Syabira which confused Bake Off fans with her savoury flavoured recipe, which consisted of tofu and chicken satay.
As Syabira explained her bake to judges Paul Hollywood and Dame Prue Leith, and co-host Noel Fielding, but neither of the two judges seemed particularly fond of the surprise selection. Noel commented: "I think you are bonkers in the best possible way. I feel like this is so original."
Fans of the show were quick to voice their displeasure at the savoury macarons on social media.
One person wrote on Twitter : "Chicken satay macarons is one of the most offensive things I've heard in my life."
Another commented: "Savoury chicken satay macarons??? I’m very much Team Syabira but I’m not sure about this one."
A third person added: "Chicken satay macarons sound utterly bizarre," and a fourth user said: "Chicken Satay macarons? Sounds pretty terrible."
Despite the perceived bad wrap about her flavouring choice, Syabira stuck to her guns as she made chicken satay macarons filled with tofu and ginger.
Prue was first to come, saying: "That is very surprising, isn't it?" To which Paul responded: "Initially, you get that sweet kick, then you get all the spices, and I love that flavour.
"And then it goes back to sweet again, which is a shame because you don't want to be left with the sweet, you want to be left with a little bit of savoury.
He continued: "I think that satay is fantastic. It really is beautiful."
Paul Hollywood's famous handshake was seen for the first time in the 2022 in week two as IT manager Dawn, 60, and Architectural assistant Maxy, 29, for their respective yo-yo and daisy inspired macarons.
The 13 contestants then did the blind bake of making Garibaldi biscuits before the biscuit mask in the showstopper challenge.
