Great British Bake Off fans all said the same thing after Sandro was crowned the star baker in dessert week tonight (Tuesday). The 30-year-old wowed the judges with his Earth-inspired hidden surprise cake.
The part-time nanny narrowly pipped Janusz to the prestigious award, who also impressed the judges with his LGBT-themed rainbow cake. The design, which contained a rainbow-shaped cupcake centre, coincided with National Coming Out Day.
After being given the gong, Sandro said: "I am going to push myself every week. Now I have got star baker, I have had a taste of it and I love it."
Commenting on Sandro's cake, judge Paul Hollywood said: "To be able to put that design together with mousse and keep it together is impressive. I love the textures and the flavours as well."
A difficult week, dessert week also saw the bakers faced with a tricky task of making a lemon meringue pie for the technical challenge. In a shock twist, the instructions from judge Prue Leith simply said 'make a lemon meringue pie'.
Ultimately it was 59-year-old West Country baker Carole who left the tent this week after struggling with the challenges. She said: "To even get in that tent is an achievement in itself. Those bakers, what a bunch of people."
Great British Bake Off fans were united in their appreciation for Sandro and his worldly creation. @Kyhrv said: "Yes Sandro. Must feel on top of the world."
While @yemandeeT said: "So happy Sandro is finally star baker. He's a talented baker." @Charlie_Tweets said: "Well done Sandro and we will miss you Carole."
