Robbie Gray has been appointed to Port Adelaide's recruitment and list management team only two months after retiring from the club's playing list.

Towards the end of his 16-year career with the Power, Gray spent time learning from the club's national recruitment manager Geoff Parker and list manager Jason Cripps, and now begins a formal role in their department.

The fourth-most capped player in Port Adelaide's AFL history, Gray will help scout local talent in South Australia and nationally.

"I've always been interested in recruiting and list management so I'm really grateful to get the opportunity to move into that space," Gray said in a club statement.

"I'm excited about having the chance to work with Jason, Geoff and the team to help add to the exciting talent we already have at the club."

This year's trade period proved fruitful for the Power, who lured SANFL product and 2021 top draft pick Jason Horne-Francis back to Adelaide after one season with North Melbourne.

Port Adelaide also landed premiership-winning small forward Junior Rioli from West Coast but lost unrestricted free agent Karl Amon to Hawthorn.

The Power's general manager of football Chris Davies said Gray would help facilitate future trades and list development.

"Rob has an eye for talent, sees the game better than most and knows what it takes to succeed at the highest level," he said.

"I have no doubt he'll be great at this too."

The Power hold picks 33 and 60 of the 2022 national draft, which will take place on November 28 and 29.
