DEPUTY First Minister Kate Forbes has issued a Facebook scam warning reporting that people are attempting to pose as her on the social media site.
Forbes has said she has been “horrified” to learn people are being scammed into believing she is messaging them on Facebook when she does not operate a personal account.
The Economy Secretary said people have been asked to make donations to charities in messages sent by scammers.
She has asked users not to engage with any messages they receive from accounts which look like her.
Forbes posted on her official MSP page that this was a matter of “grave concern”.
She said: “This is an appeal to everybody who thinks they are Facebook friends with Kate Forbes realises that it is not me.
“Please note: I don’t operate a personal account and I haven’t befriended anybody.
“I am horrified to learn that people are being scammed into believing that I am communicating with them on Facebook, including asking them to make donations to charities, thinking it is at my request.
“Please ignore all direct Facebook messages from me. Please do not accept any private messages from me on Facebook.
“Please share as this is a matter of grave concern.”
