A large grassfire has caused damage to an area equal to about 25 football pitches after burning through the night. Fire crews were alerted to the grass fire near Stormy Down, Bridgend just after 12am on Monday, April 4.
Several crews and additional emergency services attended the scene where they report facing a "large, well alight grass fire". The fire could be seen for miles and multiple crews worked for three hours to tackle the blaze.
South Wales Fire and Rescue Service reported using specialist equipment including hose reel jets and fire beaters, to tackle the blaze. It is estimated that about 20 hectares of scrubland (equating to about thirty acres) were destroyed in the fire. The incident comes just a week after fire crews worked tirelessly to tackle a fire that burned through 50 hectares of scrubland in Maesteg.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: "At approximately 12.07am on Monday, April 4, 2022, we received reports of a grass fire near Stormy Down in Bridgend. Multiple crews from Stations across South Wales attended the scene and upon arrival were faced with a large, well alight grass fire.
"Crews worked alongside emergency service colleagues to secure the area and firefighters used specialist equipment, including hose reel jets and fire beaters, to tackle the fire.
