Grant Williams underwent successful surgery to repair multiple tears including the ACL in his right knee, per ESPN’s Shams Charania. He is expected to have a nine-to-12-month recovery period.
The Charlotte Hornets forward was averaging 10.4 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, and emerged as a positive contributor after being acquired from the Dallas Mavericks at last season’s trade deadline. Williams suffered the injury as he was driving to the basket late in the fourth quarter of a Nov. 23 clash with the Milwaukee Bucks. This is his sixth NBA season.
Charlotte is 7-17 in the East, third from bottom. The Hornets recently welcomed back both Mark Williams and Nick Richards to stabilize their center rotation but look thinner at the forward spot with Miles Bridges also currently out because of a knee issue.
