Grant Hanley is major Scotland injury doubt as Steve Clarke suffers double blow with Norwich teammate also sidelined

Grant Hanley is a doubt for Scotland's Euro 2024 qualifiers against Norway and Georgia in June after being stretchered off for Norwich in their 2-0 win at Blackburn on Friday.

The Canaries skipper collapsed in agony shortly before half-time at Ewood Park with boss David Wagner confirming afterwards he’d suffered an Achilles injury. And in a double blow for Steve Clarke, Wagner confirmed Kenny McLean was set for a spell on the sidelines with a “serious” knee injury picked up through the week that “more or less ends his season.”

Hanley impressed in the heart of the Scotland defence as the Euro 2024 qualifying campaign got off to a flier with Hampden wins over Cyprus and Spain. The 31-year-old has 48 caps and could have hit the 50 mark which takes him into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame with the double header away to Norway on June 17 and home to Georgia three days later.

But the defender now faces a race against time to be fit for the crucial qualifiers and looks set to miss Norwich’s push for the play-offs with Friday’s win moving them to within a point of Blackburn in sixth. Should he fail to make it, then Liam Cooper is the most likely to slot into the back three alongside Kieran Tierney and Ryan Porteous.
