Granit Xhaka hands Switzerland major injury boost for England quarter-final clash

Switzerland have received a big boost ahead of their Euro 2024 quarter-final tie against England on Saturday after influential captain Granit Xhaka returned to full training.

Former Arsenal star Xhaka had initially been a doubt for the match in Dusseldorf earlier in the week after having a scan on an adductor problem.

The midfielder has been taking part in an individual programme this week, but on Friday morning joined in with full training with the rest of the Swiss squad.

Switzerland had always been confident that Xhaka would be fit in time to face England and will be delighted that he has come through this week with no setbacks.

The ex-Gunners skipper has been in brilliant form during this European Championship so far and has twice been voted as man of the match during Murat Yakin’s side’s impressive run to the quarter-finals, which included just being pipped to top spot in Group A by hosts Germany before deservedly dumping out defending champions Italy in the last 16.

Xhaka has excelled in the heart of midfield and will have a vital role to play as the Swiss look to defeat misfiring England and book a place in the final four at a major tournament for the very first time.
