Granit Xhaka fitness decision made in Arsenal predicted line-up vs Man City

Arsenal could once again be without midfielder Granit Xhaka when they face Manchester City at the Emirates on Wednesday.

Mikel Arteta's side head north for what is set to be a massive game in the Premier League title race. They are currently five points clear of City having played two games more, following a run of three straight draws against Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton.

Anything but defeat for Pep Guardiola's side would put the title in their hands with a month of the season to go.

Arteta confirmed on Tuesday that he will be without defender William Saliba, with the France international yet to show any progress from a complicated back injury that has kept him out since their Europa League defeat by Sporting Lisbon at the start of March.

That will likely mean the continuation of Rob Holding's spell at the heart of defence. The 27-year-old started in the 1-0 FA Cup defeat to City in January and endured a tough 45 minutes against Erling Haaland before being subbed off. He is expected to start alongside Gabriel, flanked on the right by Ben White and to the left by former Blues man Oleksandr Zinchenko, with Aaron Ramsdale in goal.

In midfield, Arteta faces another problem in deciding on the fitness of Xhaka who he admitted was a doubt after not training before his Tuesday morning press conference - although he hoped the Swiss international would train later that day.

With so little time to prepare, Xhaka is expected to miss out with Fabio Vieira joining Thomas Partey in the double-pivot behind Martin Odegaard.

Arteta has no such problems further forward, with Gabriel Jesus now fully fit after a long spell out and set to return to City. He will likely lead the line, with Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli either side.

Arsenal predicted line-up in full: Ramsdale; White, Holding, Gabriel, Zinchenko; Partey, Viera; Saka, Odegaard, Martinelli; Jesus
