Grandson's heartbreaking tribute to grandad found dead

A grandson "wished things could have been different" after his grandad was found dead this morning.

Merseyside police confirmed a body had been found in the search for missing Leslie Fielding earlier today. The 77-year-old, from Haydock, went missing from home, after he left at around 7pm on Saturday, June 17.

When he was last spotted, he was driving towards the direction of East Lancashire Road. Police shared appeals to help find the dad, as concerns grew about his whereabouts.

Speaking to the ECHO his grandson Jack Fielding said: "I'm so sorry grandad. I wish things could have been different. I've always loved you. Forever in my heart."

Mr Fielding was driving a silver Toyota RAV 4 with tinted rear windows. Officers have now confirmed he was found in the Greater Manchester area. Police officers are providing his family with support.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "We can confirm that Leslie Fielding was sadly found dead in the Greater Manchester area this morning, Thursday 22nd June. Mr Fielding, 77, was last seen leaving his home in the Haydock area on the evening of Saturday 17th June and enquiries have been ongoing to locate him.

"A report will be prepared for the coroner but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances at this time."
