A grandma has gone viral after sharing the secret behind her massive Yorkshire puddings – which take up the entire oven. Victoria Rushton uses an old family recipe to make the giant puds, which require ‘plenty of eggs’ and deep baking tray.
After putting them in the oven for 20 minutes, the Sunday dinner delicacies come out measuring a whopping 23inch (60cm) by 21inch (55cm). When her daughter tagged her in a Facebook post asking for the best Yorkshire puddings, the 55-year-old shared a picture of her own impressive bakes.
Her post soon garnered thousands of likes and comments, leaving Victoria 'blown away' by the response, Wales Online reports.
She said: “I was just like wow. My daughter asked me if I had seen the post and I hadn't.
"She said there was thousands of comments, thousands of likes and thousands of shares. It was just absolutely wow - I just couldn't believe it.
“People were saying that would like to see the size of my oven and things like that but it's just a normal size oven. They were saying stuff like 'look at that size of that Yorkshire pudding oh my god' and everyone was just commenting about them."
The shop owner first learned how to make the massive Yorkshire Puddings from her late father-in-law, Frank, over 35 years ago. Since then, they have become a firm family favourite, with Victoria usually serving her puds with 'loads of roast potatoes', mash, carrots, cauliflower cheese, broccoli and whatever meat she fancies that day.
She says the secret behind the huge puddings is to use ‘plenty of eggs’ with an equal mixture of water and milk to help them rise. The batter is then portioned onto a really hot baking tray that takes up the entire oven shelf.
Victoria also keeps the left over mixture and adds it to her homemade gravy to thicken it up.
When her daughter first saw the social media post asking for the best Yorkshire Puddings, she already knew her mum's were in a different league to the rest. Victoria then uploaded a picture of her puds, with the Facebook page soon crowning them ‘pudding of the week’ and commenting: “You could put to sea in that!”
Victoria, of Barnsley, South York , said: “My daughter messaged me saying ‘you should get one of yours on there – they’re better than any of these’. So I put one on.
"People kept coming on and saying ‘I’d love to see the size of her oven’. But’s it’s a normal oven, although it has a tray that’s like a roasting dish that slides in.
"I always make them that big, unless its just for me and my husband. They’re big enough for six. My late father-in-law showed me how to make the mix, and they always rise as big as that.
"It's lovely, I just love my own Sunday dinner. A lot of people say that they cannot eat their own Sunday dinner and that they don't enjoy it. But I do, it's really good."
