Grandad chic: knitted vests are the new trend no one saw coming

Sweater vests are synonymous with preppy kids, cricket players and, of course, your beloved grandpa.

More fuddy-duddy than fashionable, it's not an item most of us have in our wardrobes. Until now.

Key designers have been slowly, but surely, changing that concept by showcasing knitted vests on the catwalks of both men's and women's fashion week.

Bold striped creations were worn by both girls and guys at Gucci's spring/summer 2019 show, while they were also a prominent feature on the latest Fashion Week Men's catwalks with Versace opting for more traditional woolly patterns for its autumn/winter 2019 collection.

The most popular, and sartorially savvy, styling technique to emerge so far is to quite literally take a note out of your grandpa's book and pair it with a shirt. For extra style points keep the top half tonal.

Whether you opt for vibrant purple or subtle caramel hues, influencers on the 'gram are definitely making a strong case for the decades old look.

The question is: are you going to invest in a new-season style or just borrow straight from gramps?
