Grand Theft Auto San Andreas VR Project Delayed Indefinitely By Meta

New GTA game delayed 'indefinitely' as other projects are focused on

A brand new Grand Theft Auto game that was in development by Meta in conjunction with Rockstar Games has been delayed indefinitely. Meta had announced during Facebook Connect in October 2021 that they were working on remaking the iconic GTA: San Andreas title in VR. However, no gameplay footage or release date was shared at the event, with Meta describing the project as 'a project many years in the making'.

A spokesperson for Meta confirmed to IGN that the game has been put on hold indefinitely. Additionally, Meta Quest's VR official YouTube account responded to queries about the status of GTA San Andreas VR, stating that the project is on hold while they focus on other projects, but they look forward to future collaborations with Rockstar.

Meanwhile, a potential leak of the release date for GTA 6 appeared on IMDb. Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, had previously confirmed during an earnings call that the release window for GTA 6 is set for Autumn 2025 with no delays. Despite remaining tight-lipped about the game's development stage, the company's confirmation of staying on track was deemed crucial for the industry's momentum.

Shortly after the earnings call, IMDb listed a release date of October 27, 2025, for GTA 6, aligning with the Autumn 2025 window. However, it's important to note that IMDb listings can be updated by anyone, and the date coincidentally fell on a Monday. The listing has since been reverted, emphasizing the need for official announcements regarding the highly anticipated game.
