The ‘Sri Ramanavami Navahnika Brahmotsavam’ got off to a religious start with ‘Dhwajarohanam’ on Sunday at the famed Sri Kodandarama temple in Vontimitta.
The officiating priest (Kankanabhattar) Rajesh Kumar performed a series of rituals that culminated in the hoisting of the sacred flag bearing an imprint of ‘Garuda’ atop the temple flag post, signalling the beginning of the nine-day festival. The flag is a symbol of invitation to the celestial beings to descend on the earth to witness the grand gala festival.
Rajampet MLA Meda Mallikarjuna Reddy presented the silk ‘Vastram’ to the shrine commemorating the festival, in the presence of Kadapa Zilla Parishad chairman Akepati Amarnatha Reddy.
According to the TTD Joint Executive Officer V. Veerabrahmam, the temple management made elaborate arrangements for the important occasions such as Garuda Seva (April 14), Sita Rama Kalyanam (April 15), Chakra Snanam (April 18) and Pushpa Yagam (April 19).
