Grand National 2023: Meet the woman crowned Style Award winner at Aintree Ladies' Day after taking her mum's advice

This year's Ladies Day Style Award winner had already swapped into flip-flops when she found out she had made the final three.

Sian Jones, from Ellesmere Port, beat off tough competition on the damp and muddy pink carpet to scoop the coveted top prize. As with previous years, ticket holders have gone all out this Ladies Day which returned as part of the much-anticipated Grand National. There's been an array of styles on show, with dresses, suits, co-ords and more sported by festival-goers - but there could only be one winner.

Sian Jones chose a yellow two-piece with floral embroidery from online retail giant ASOS for Ladies Day, paired with a pair of lilac heels, also from ASOS, and a matching lilac headband from independent retailer Etsy, with a little bag from a charity shop. Her efforts saw her named the most stylish at Aintree.

The 26-year-old "took her mum's advice" by opting for lilac accessories, drawing on the colours featured in the intricate detailing on her top and skirt. Both stunned and delighted, Sian told the ECHO she was "completely shocked" to be named this year's winner and still felt "really nervous" from going on stage in front of such a big crowd.

She said she "disregarded winning" after entering the lucrative competition and was surprised to receive a phone call informing her she'd made it into the top three. Immediately, Sian said she called her mum to let her know.

She said: "I was immediately on the phone to my mum like, 'you'll never believe this', in my flip-flops because I'd already changed shoes at this point."

Sian said a "fair amount of planning" went into the completed look, mainly because her mum offered plenty of guidance. Sian said: "My mum was being like, 'I see purple in that, you need to get purple.' I was like, 'I see your vision, I'm going to follow it. It's fine'", conceding she took her mum's advice.

Though there were still a few last minute additions to her outfit - Sian painted her toenails in the car en route to Aintree, and woke up at 3am this morning after forgetting to apply fake tan - but it all worked in her favour.

After being named this year's winner, Sian will receive a holiday worth £5,000 and £1,500 spending money, £1,000 donated to a charity of her choice, a £300 House of Cavani voucher and in store experience; two Garden Club tickets to Ladies Day 2024, and a Randox Health full-body Everyman I Everywoman package.

Of the holiday win, Sian, at Ladies Day with her "best friend Chloe" who she dubbed "the love of her life", said: "I've not really thought about it, but somewhere hot and sunny - after the rain today, just anywhere that's dry and hasn't seen a spot of rain in like a week will be nice."

She revealed she'll be donating her £1,000 charity money to The Brain Tumour Charity, which has a base in Liverpool, in memory of her uncle who sadly died of a brain tumour.

Steve Mulholland, who came second will receive a tech bundle worth £3,000, a £200 House of Cavani voucher, two Festival Zone tickets to Ladies Day 2024, as well as two places in hospitality on one of Aintree's Music Nights in 2023.

In third place was Carmen Lee, who will receive a £500 QUIZ gift voucher, a £100 House of Cavani voucher and two Festival Zone tickets to Ladies Day 2024.

The Grand National 2023 began on Thursday, April 13 and will finish tomorrow, Saturday, April 15. ECHO reporters are at Aintree over the course of the festival to keep you updated on all the latest news from the event.
