Grand National 2023: Irish-trained winner odds-on in betting as more domination expected

Irish trainers are being backed to dominate this weekend's Grand National, with the bookies making it odds-on that the winning horse will be one trained in Ireland.

Ladbrokes has opened betting on where the winner of the race will be trained, making Ireland the red-hot favourite at 2/7, ahead of England at 5/1, while a Scottish-trained winner is 11/2, with a Welsh winner 12/1.

Irish trainers have won five of the last six renewals of the world's most famous steeplechase, with the Scottish-trained One For Arthur winning the other of those, meaning it's 2015 since a horse trained in England last won the race, with Many Clouds securing victory for Oliver Sherwood on that occasion.

Meanwhile, Ladbrokes believe the world’s most famous race will see between 13-15 finishers, while it’s 10/1 that 22 or more see out the race.

Recent Cheltenham Festival winner Corach Rambler remains the one to beat at 6/1, but the firm say last year’s 1-2-3 have all been backed. Noble Yeats is 8/1 to retain the crown, while Delta Work is 9/1 ahead of Any Second Now at 12/1.

Nicola McGeady of Ladbrokes said: “Another Irish invasion is expected to descend upon Aintree this week and the odds very much suggest that an Irish runner will land the Grand National. Lucinda Russell might have something to say about that however!”
