Grand National 2022: Road works update for people travelling to Aintree

The popular Grand National returns this weekend, with race goers keen to celebrate after a two year absence caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The pandemic had a major impact on the events and hospitality industries, and in some instances led to the permanent closure of independent shops, businesses, restaurants and more, while multiple events were cancelled, postponed or modified in line with government-mandated restrictions. Last year's Grand National was a televised affair that saw fans watching the action from the comfort of their own homes.

This year's event will take place from Thursday, April 7 to Saturday, April 9. As with previous Grand National weekends, organisers this year are pulling out all the stops.

The Grand National takes place at Aintree Racecourse. The venue is easily accessible via rail, with Aintree Station located opposite the racecourse - regular trains run every 15 minutes on race days.

Aintree Racecourse is located on the A59, one mile from the M57 and M58, which link the M62 and M6. Road closures are usually implemented over the course of the festivities but this year, Liverpool City Council has confirmed it will be suspending road works and road closures in key areas for the duration of the event to help people get to and from the venue.

As yet, no further details have been announced though more information is expected within the next few days. We will post road closure updates as soon as they are announced.
