Riverside revelry awaits you on the total lunar eclipse night
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in collaboration with Iconsiam, the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Iconsiam Superlux Residence Corporation Co., Ltd. together with government agencies and private sectors, will host "Iconsiam Chao Phraya River of Eternal Prosperity,” a grand Loy Kratong festival next to the Chao Phraya River.
The event aims to promote a sustainable celebration with krathongs made of natural materials. The main event will take place at River Park on Nov 8 from 3pm to midnight. It features a special dance performance “Glorious River under the Moonlight.” that traces back to the story of rivers, lights, and full moon nights.
Actress Melda ‘Bow’ Susri will present a specially-made traditional Thai Chakri dress named “Nop Naree Sri Chollamark,” representing the outstanding beauty of the full moon on the Loy Krathong night. The total value of the dress and accessories on her is over 20 million baht. And the night will end with a mini-concert by Thai artist Palmy.
Iconsiam together with the Department of Environment, Khlong San District Office, and partners will collect krathongs from the Chao Phraya River right after the event and bring them into the segregation process. The natural and biodegradable krathongs will be composed as fertiliser at the Nong Khaem Waste Disposal Center while other non-degradable items will be disposed of in landfills.
However, the celebration already starts with a krathong exhibition featuring beautiful baskets representing different regions of Thailand and 21 krathongs representing members of APEC to commemorate the occasion of Thailand hosting the 2022 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation. These krathongs will be on display until Nov 22.
At Sooksiam, on the G floor, Loy Krathong activity runs until Nov 10. Enjoy eating and shopping Thai products in the Thai temple fair setting decorated with handcrafted Lanna lanterns. Visitors are welcome to float your eco-friendly krathong in the wells of four regions. On Nov 7, at 3pm, there will be a Nang Noppamas Contest with a prize of over B70,000 baht.
