Grand Designs host Kevin McCloud was stunned by the transformation of the infamous property that had featured in what was dubbed the "saddest episode ever".
The presenter, 63, revisited the lighthouse-inspired home in Devon that had been under construction for more than a decade during the latest episode of the Channel 4 show.
Its part of an estate – which includes an annex known as the Eye – that had been introduced to viewers by Edward Short and his now ex-wife Hazel on the series in 2019.
They had been in the process of constructing the 'lighthouse' when they first appeared on Grand Designs, in what viewers at the time felt was the "saddest episode ever".
Kevin previously felt the property was a "sad and cautionary tale about overreaching", having led to significant debt and the end of their marriage for Edward and Hazel.
The presenter however returned to the property in June this year to see what it looked like now after it had undergone a makeover since he last saw it a few years ago.
The lighthouse has been painted, had windows installed and now features stylish furnishings – with Kevin describing the whitewashed property as "superb" upon seeing it now.
He added: "Everything here is epic". He was given a tour of the property, which includes several bedrooms, an infinity pool and a top-storey room that offers around 300 degree views of the coast.
Although having wanted to live in the property once completed, Edward revealed that he would now need to sell it – saying that the lighthouse and the Eye would be sold together.
He estimated that the total cost of the project had been between £5.5 million and £6 million, despite having initially hoped to spend up to £1.8 million.

He said that it's hoped that the two buildings will bring in £10 million combined once they are sold, with the lighthouse said to be worth £8 million of that figure.
Although viewers were divided over the aesthetic of the completed property, a number of them expressed gratitude over the project finally being completed.
"Great to see this build finished after so many years," said one viewer. Another tweeted: "Finally we all have closure though on the saddest ever #GrandDesigns build".
Another said: "I've thought about this house many times over the years and I'm so glad it's finished, but the ending makes me feel sad. All that work to still never get your dream".
And sharing his own thoughts about the experience, presenter Kevin commented towards the end of the recent episode: "I'm not sure I'll ever see a project like this again".
Grand Designs continues on Channel 4 next Wednesday (October 26) from 9pm. You can catch up on previous episodes of the show through streaming service All4 now.
