Gran who is still raving at 57 goes by herself because friends her age aren't interested

A grandmother who loves hardcore dance music has been to more than 50 festivals - and says you don't need drugs or alcohol to have a good time. Lynne Cole, 57, goes raving all on her own and has been doing so since 2015.

She has been to more than 50 music festivals so far and regularly goes to smaller independent raves at local pubs and nightclubs. Lynne, from Sydney, Australia, said: "My fun is pure, no drugs. No alcohol and no cigarettes.

"I try to show you don’t need any of that to have fun. Hardstyle music when you enter a festival, the music is loud. Everyone is just as excited as you are to be there.

"We are all there for one reason, to connect to the DJs and their music, no matter the age. The energy and the vibe is so amazing.

"I greet old friends I made at past festivals, and I always make new ones. I love people and I love to hug."

Lynne, a grandmother of one, was always into electronic music, but after having her first child at the age 21, she was unable to make the most of raving. She added: "I liked Hardstyle music back when it was called house music/electronic music. Then I had a kid in 1986 at 21. I had to grow up and the music got lost for many years."

When Lynn's three children were old enough to go to festivals, she joined them at a rave, and she hasn't looked back since. She said: "In 2015 I went to an official rave with my twins instead of some underground car park like back in the day.

But Lynne now struggles to find other people her age to attend the concerts and festivals with, so she goes on her own. She added: "I go to all festivals by myself. I will be waiting a long time for someone my age to join me.

"My children don’t go to raves anymore so I go by myself. My kids are ok with it."

Lynne, who used to work as a carer for disabled adults, has no intentions of slowing down and plans on carrying on raving forever. She recently retired and bought a camper van to go to other festivals across Australia and shares her adventures on TikTok as @ravegranny.

Lynne said: "I bought a camper van so I can go the interstate festivals like Karnival in Melbourne, Victoria. It’s a nine-hour drive to get there. I’m going by myself. I’ll drive it over two days."

Lynne is also planning on travelling to Europe to attend a hardstyle festival next year. She said: "I can’t see me ever stopping going to raves. In 2017 I went to Defqon.1 in the Netherlands and planning to go back in 2024."
