Grammys producer defends Bianca Censori's nude red carpet moment claiming dress code 'up for interpretation'

A Grammys executive producer is weighing in on Kanye West and Bianca Censori’s headline-grabbing red carpet moment.

The couple sparked controversy on Sunday when Censori shed her fur coat ahead of the 2025 awards, unveiling an ultra-sheer minidress that left little to the imagination.

With no visible underwear and barely-there coverage, her daring look quickly ignited debate online, with many questioning whether she had violated the Grammys’ dress code— or even California’s indecent exposure laws.

Addressing the backlash, executive producer Raj Kapoor told People magazine that while guests were instructed to follow an “artistic black-tie” dress code, in the music industry, “I guess that’s up for interpretation.”

He added: “Obviously there is a dress code for anybody actually performing on the show that we have to adhere to standards and practices.

“But as far as people attending and nominees attending, that would be something the [Recording] Academy [which presents the Grammys] would have to answer.”

Following their arrival, it was reported that West, who was nominated for his rap track Carnival, and Censori had turned up uninvited, and were escorted out by police after their “crazy stunt”.

Amid the controversy, Censori’s younger sister Angelina, 21, shared her support for her eyebrow-raising look on Instagram.

She posted two videos of the viral moment and also commented with a fire emoji under West’s post of their appearance.

They were conflicting reports as to whether West and Censori were invited to the Grammys, however a source who spoke on the condition of anonymity claimed Ye was an invited guest because of his nomination in the best rap song category for Carnival.

The couple walked and exited without being escorted out, the insider added.

A lip reader claimed West was very much in control of Censori’s outfit stunt on the red carpet.

He encouraged his wife, whispering to her, "Make a scene, I'll say it'll make so much sense," Nicola Hickling, the head analyst at LipReader, told the Mirror.

Censori gave a silent nod of agreement, before West seemingly instructed her to, "Drop [the coat] behind you and then turn, I got you."

As the cameras flashed, he added: "You're making a scene now.”

People online blasted the stunt “creepy” and “disturbing”, while others slammed West for his seemingly exploitative behaviour.

The controversial rapper appeared to justify his actions on Tuesday, sharing a post on his Instagram which implied that his wife’s appearance had overshadowed the winners at the awards show.

West posted an image of the Google Search Analytics for the US in the last day, revealing more people had searched for “Bianca Censori grammys” than “Grammy winners 2025”.
