Grammys 2025: Beyoncé Makes History. Latino Artists Snubbed

"Thank you to the queer community for your love and for inventing this genre," Beyoncé said in her speech. (Credit: Twitter/Billboard)

The Grammy nominations for 2025, sparked celebrations, controversy and historic achievements. Leading with an incredible 11 nominations, Beyoncé has once again cemented her status as a music industry icon.

This year, she becomes the most nominated artist in Grammy history, surpassing her husband, Jay-Z, and reaching a staggering total of 89 nominations. Among her nominations, Beyoncé's "Texas Hold 'Em" is nominated for Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Country Song, a genre that marks new territory for the queen of pop.

Right behind her are Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Kendrick Lamar and Post Malone, each with seven nominations. These artists have dominated both the mainstream and critical scenes, proving their versatility and appeal. Charli XCX and Billie Eilish are up for Best Pop Dance Recording, along with others in the genre such as Ariana Grande, Madison Beer and Troye Sivan.

U.S. artist Sabrina Carpenter is one of the Grammy's rising stars, earning her first nomination in the Best Pop Solo Performance category for her song Espresso. This song has launched her to stardom, and she has also garnered nominations in all four major categories: Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best New Artist. This marks a major breakthrough for Carpenter, whose music has gained traction and recognition over the past year.

Chappell Roan, another first-time nominee, joined in the Best Pop Solo Performance category with her hit "Good Luck, Babe!". Joining her, Madison Beer and RAYE are also celebrating their first nominations, representing a new wave of talent recognized by the Academy. Other new nominees such as Gracie Abrams, Benson Boone and Nigerian artist Lojay have also secured their place among this year's nominees, generating excitement for global music representation at the Grammys.

While these nominations delighted many, they also left several fans and artists disappointed. Finneas, a usual Grammy favorite, was notably shut out of the Producer of the Year category for his work on HIT ME HARD AND SOFT, despite critical acclaim.

Ariana Grande fans have also expressed their displeasure, as her track "we can't be friends (wait for your love)" only received a nomination in the Best Pop Dance Recording category. Although the song debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, Grande was absent in the main categories such as Album, Song and Record of the Year.

Dua Lipa and Camila Cabello were also excluded from the major categories, which surprised many who expected their recent work to be celebrated. Tyla, a new R&B sensation, was also ignored, leaving her fans questioning the Academy's decisions.

The 67th Annual GRAMMY Awards is scheduled for February 2, 2025 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. The event will be broadcast live on CBS and available for streaming on Paramount+

Latino artists snubbed from the 2025 Grammy noms

With four nominations, Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudame is the most-nominated Latino artist for the 2025 Grammy Awards, followed by percussionist Sheila E., who earned two nominations. This year's list for the U.S.'s top music awards once again excluded Spanish-speaking artists from major categories.

Dudamel, one of the most acclaimed classical artists by the Academy, is competing in categories for Best Orchestral Performance, Best Engineered Non-Classical Album, Best Classical Compendium, and Best Contemporary Classical Composition.

Sheila E., on her end, was nominated for Best Tropical Latin Album and Best Global Music Performance.

The remaining Latino nominees each received a single nomination, mostly in specific categories like Latin music or children's music. Exceptions were Cardi B, nominated for Best Rap Performance with 'Enough (Miami),' and Édgar Barrera in the Composer of the Year category.

Many anticipated Shakira's latest album 'Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran' would enter the general *Best Pop Album* category, or at least her song 'Puntería' with Cardi B would be considered, but it was overlooked. The biggest snub, however, was Camila Cabello, whose album 'C,XOXO' was ignored in a year that recognized most major pop female artists.
